Doctrinal Statement

SCRIPTURE:

We believe that the sixty six books of the Bible are the complete, finished, and verbally inspired Word of God. We believe it to be without error in the original writings, and it is fully authoritative and sufficient for all matters of faith and life. (2 Peter 1:20,21; 2 Timothy 3:16,17)

THE GODHEAD/TRINITY:

We believe there is one true and living God, absolutely holy, trustworthy, perfect and exists in all of eternity in three equal Persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We believe each Person is eternal, equal in power and authority, possessing the same nature and attributes of personality and purpose. (Matthew 28:19; John 1:1,2; Ephesians 4:5,6)

GOD THE FATHER:

We believe in God the Father who is absolutely holy, almighty, all knowing, and all seeing, and possessing all wisdom. We believe He is gracious and merciful, patient, loving, kind and faithful. We believe He hears and answers prayer and saves from eternal death and hell, providing eternal life to all those who believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour. (Exodus 34:6,7; Isaiah 6:1-3; Romans 11:33; Revelation 4:8; Psalms 10:17; John 3:16-18; Titus 1:2, 3:7)

GOD THE SON:

We believe in God the Son, Jesus Christ, who is truly God and truly man. We believe in His virgin birth, His substitutionary death on behalf of all mankind for the remission and forgiveness of sin, His bodily resurrection, and ascension to Heaven to sit at the right hand of the Father. We believe He is our High Priest and only mediator between God and man. We believe in His physical and personal return to earth when and as the Father has planned. (John 1:1-4; Matthew 1:20-23; Luke 24:1-12; Acts 1:9-11; 1Corinthians 15:3; 2 Corinthians 5:21; 1Thessolonians 4:14-18; 1 Timothy 2:5; Hebrews 8:1,20)

GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT:

We believe in God the Holy Spirit, who is truly God, being the agent of man’s new birth. We believe He convicts man of sin, righteousness, and judgement. We believe He guides, teaches, and instructs believers through the Word of God. We believe He indwells all true believers at the moment of conversion, and that Baptism of the Holy Spirit occurs in that moment. We believe at the moment of repentance a sinner is regenerated, justified, and sanctified before God. We believe He assigns such gifts as are needed for the growth of the Church, individually, locally, and universally. We believe He seals and secures believers until the day of redemption. (John 3:5,6:63,14:16,17,28; 1Corinthians 2:12,13; John 16:7-11; Romans 8:9; Luke 3:16; John 1:33; 1Corinthians 12: 7,11,13; Ephesians 1:13,14; 1 Peter 1:2)

CREATION:

We believe God created all of heaven and earth, things visible and invisible, and that all life has been created by direct action of God, after its own kind, and not by the process of evolution. (Genesis 1-2:3; John 1:3; Colossians 1: 16,17)

MAN:

We believe God created man in His likeness and in a sinless state, but through active rebellion Adam and Eve disobeyed God, chose sin, and incurred both physical and spiritual death, that being eternal separation from God, as the result. We believe as a consequence of the fall of Adam and Eve, all people are born with a sin nature and in possessing such are of themselves sinners in thought, word, and deed. We believe that all men are absolutely guilty before a holy God and are incapable of saving themselves by any earthly means, and that all men are dead in their sin, and need to be born again of God through the blood of Jesus Christ. (Genesis 2-3; Romans 5:12; John 3:3,7; Romans 3:23,6:23; Ephesians 2:1, 2:8,9)

GENDER, MARRIAGE AND SEXUALITY:

We believe God created humanity “male and female.” As God intentionally created humanity with gender distinction, rejection of one’s biological sex is a rejection of God’s perogative and purpose as Creator. To assert that God created a person with the wrong biological sex is idolatrous because it implies we know better than God regarding His creation. (Genesis 1:26,27)

We believe that the term marriage has only one meaning: the uniting of one biological man (i.e. a male at birth) and one biological woman (i.e. a female at birth) in a single, exclusive union (a covenant), as delineated in Scripture. We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to occur only between a man and a woman who are married to each other. We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman. (Genesis 2:18-25; 1 Corinthian 6:18; Hebrews 13:4)

SALVATION:

We believe that salvation is a free gift from God in His grace, totally apart from any human merit and is received by any person only through faith in Jesus Christ, through the shedding of His blood for the forgiveness of sin. We believe that any person who repents of their sin and puts their faith in Jesus is forgiven of all their sin. We believe that neither the Lord’s Supper or Baptism, nor any other rite, ceremony, or human effort contributes in any manner or degree to a sinner’s salvation. (Romans 4:5; Ephesians 1:7, 2:8,9; 1 Peter 3:8; Mark 1:15)

We believe that Christ’s blood sacrifice is sufficient to pay for the sin of all who have or shall ever live, but is only effective for those who place their faith and trust in Jesus as their Lord and Saviour. ( John 3:16; Acts 20:28)

We believe that we are justified by Christ’s salvation work, that His righteousness is credited to us and our guilt credited to Him, to the end that this justification causes the believer to be adopted into God’s family and made a co-heir with Christ. ( 2 Corinthians 5:21; Romans 8:15-17; Galatians 3:25-29; Ephesians 1:5)

We believe that the believer is regenerated by the Holy Spirit, who raises them from death due to sin, to being alive in Christ. We believe that these believers are sealed and kept secure in Christ forever by the Holy Spirit. (John 3:5; Ephesians 2:1,5, 1:13,14; John 6: 37-40, 10:27-30; Romans 8:1, 27-30,38,39)

SANCTIFICATION:

We believe sanctification refers to both the state and the process of the believer being set apart as holy. Upon regeneration, God immediately places the believer in a state of holiness. This means that in God’s sight all believers are holy. ( Acts 20:32, 26:18; 1 Corinthians 1:2, 6:11; Hebrews 10:10)

We believe sanctification also refers to the ongoing process of the believer’s growth in being set apart for God. Due to the remaining sin nature, the believer’s sanctification is a process. Sinless ness cannot be achieved in this life, so the believer must consciously and actively strive to be more like Christ until the end of life. ( Romans 6:13-16; Hebrews 12:14; John 1:8-10, 3:5-9; Ephesians 4:20-24; Philippians 3:12)

THE LOCAL CHURCH:

We believe that being representatives of Christ in our communities, our Board members and Management Teams shall consist solely of born again believers, saved by faith alone in Christ’s atoning sacrifice, being able to give testimony to such, and being united through the work of the Holy Spirit, with Christ as our final authority. (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 1:8; 1 Peter 3:15)

We believe our Board members shall consist of Biblically qualified individuals who shepherd our residents and staff, safe guard doctrine and proper teaching of the Scriptures, and meet Biblical standards in the role as overseers. We believe Management Teams and Staff will carry out the ministries of WFCC, also meeting Biblical standards in the role as deacons. (1 Timothy 3:1-13; Titus 1:5-9; Acts 2:42)

We believe our mission to be one of reconciling man to God through presentation of the Gospel (both in word and deed), discipleship, and training in all of life’s situations. (2 Corinthians 5:17-20; Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 1:8)

BAPTISM AND THE LORD'S SUPPER:

We believe in baptism by immersion, and only after a profession of faith and allegiance to Jesus Christ. We believe that baptism is a physical picture of the cleansing work of Christ, that it signifies the believer’s faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus. We believe it shows the believer’s new life in Christ, and that it is to be done in obedience to Jesus’ command, and it in no way contributes to the act of salvation. (Matthew 28:19; Galatians 3:27; Colossians 2:12; Romans 6:4)

We believe the Lord’s Supper (Communion) is a further reminder of Jesus Christ’s sacrificial atonement for sinners by giving of HIs body and blood, made effective through HIs resurrection. We believe its observance should continue until the Lord’s return. (Luke 22:19,20; 1 Corinthians 11:23-29)

LAST THINGS:

We believe the souls of those who have trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation will immediately enter into the presence of God upon physical death. We believe that after death the souls of unbelievers will remain in conscious torment until the final judgement. (Matthew 25: 41-46; Luke 16: 24-26)

We believe in the personal, bodily return of Jesus Christ, after which He will bind satan and set up His kingdom on earth. We believe in the resurrection of the body, the final judgement, the eternal joy in the presence of God, and the endless suffering of the lost in the lake of fire. ( 1 Thessalonians 4:16; Revelation 20:1-6; Romans 2:5-7; Hebrews 9:27; Revelation 20:11-15)

We believe the heavens and the earth will pass away and be replaced with a new heaven and new earth where only the righteous dwell. In this new creation the saints will dwell with the Lord in the New Jerusalem forever. ( Revelation 21:1-27)

SATAN:

We believe Satan is a distinct and real personality. We believe that he is a fallen angel, the god of this age, the adversary of Christ and His church, and that his destiny is eternal punishment in the lake of fire. ( John 8:44; Ephesians 2:2; John 13:2; 2 Corinthians 4;4; I Thessalonians 2:18; Revelation 20: 1-3, 7-10)

AUTHORITY OF DOCTRINE:

The final authority for dealing with matters of this organization’s doctrine shall be the Doctrinal Statement as written above.
